Case Study: Michigan Militia Groups Organize Openly on Social Media

Every voter should be aware of the false narratives and fake news surrounding the US presidential election. That is why Alethea in partnership with the Global Information Index launched the Election Protection Project. The team will use public and open source information to inform voters of the networks seeking to undermine them ahead of the election.

Our second report, that was covered by the Washington Post, details 25 militia groups in Michigan, their organization tactics and how Facebook, online sites and other social media platforms are utilized to coordinate membership and events. Alethea observed that these militias are highly organized with hierarchical systems of representation within the organization.
